Rochester Institute of Technology had its grand opening ceremony on Friday for its new Clinical Health Sciences Center, a $15 million facility that gives RIT a greater presence in the health and wellness professions. The 45,000-square-foot building houses the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition and includes space for a Rochester Regional Health physician’s office, which will open Oct. 19, with a family medicine practitioner.
With increases in patient volume in emergency rooms becoming the norm, hospitals have felt the negative effects on staff efficiency, quality of care, and patient flow and satisfaction. To better accommodate this influx of patients, many hospitals look to expand their existing emergency room or reconfigure existing space, which can be challenging due to their duration, cost, and effect on hospital operations; and, if not properly planned, can lead to spaces that do not meet your needs. However, those challenges can be minimized by proper space planning exercises on the front end of concept development.
