A long-awaited federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration final rule for working in confined spaces on construction sites has received general support from industry and labor unions, which see the regulation as a positive development that will protect workers.

Cornell Law School Certified LEED Platinum

The newly constructed addition to the Cornell Law School’s Myron Taylor Hall exceeded its sustainable burden of proof, leaving no reasonable doubt that it’s now certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum – the highest level accreditation possible – by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Hanley Wood's Masonry Construction has selected two 2014 Projects of the Year: The William Jewell College and Elmira College Cowles Hall Stabilization & Restoration in Elmira, NY. Awards of Merit were also given to projects in a variety of other masonry categories. All 2014 Project of the Year Winners showcase the significant contributions the masonry industry makes to the advancements in architectural design, as well as demonstrate cooperation between the mason contractor, materials supplier, design engineer, and architect.

From Bridges to Museums, Judges Pick NY Region's Best Projects

More than three-dozen projects in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut garnered high praise as winners of ENR New York’s Best Projects competition this year. Among the winners was Cornell University's recently completed Bill & Melinda Gates Hall, which took the top spot in the Higher Education category.

Performing Arts Center Construction Speeds Along

Since this April's groundbreaking ceremony, contractors have made rapid progress in the construction of the 65,000-square-foot Performing Arts Center that will become the heart of HWS dance, theatre, music, and film endeavors. The summer's significant highlights include the relocation of the Medbery parking lot, substantial site work, building excavation, and the placing of foundations.

New C-PP Middle School taking shape

As the Corning-Painted Post school district’s $97 million facilities project has slowly progressed, the construction of the new high school has probably gotten the most attention, with marquee features such as a cavernous 2,100-seat gym/fieldhouse and a plush 1,100-seat auditorium. But up in Painted Post, work is also humming along on the new C-PP Middle School.

Glass Museum's new galleries take shape

Two years after groundbreaking, the gently curving walls and towering skylights of the new contemporary glass art galleries are taking shape, marking a new phase in the $64 million expansion at the Corning Museum of Glass. The site has slowly progressed from a muddy pit to a monstrous steel and rebar skeleton, and now the structure is nearly enclosed.

New Gates Hall at Cornell Builds Collaboration

Silicon Valley arrived on the Cornell University campus this winter in the form of the new Bill & Melinda Gates HallThe $60 million, state-of-the-art facility is designed to foster interdisciplinary research collaborations in Computing and Information Science. Located on Campus Road across from Barton Hall and built on the former Hoy North parking lot, the Gates building brings together computer science, information science and statistical science units in a sleek yet industrial space.
