As part of Referendum 2, Welliver was hired to manage a comprehensive renovation and expansion project at Big Flats School. The scope of work included transforming the existing gymnasium and library into a new cafeteria and kitchen, as well as converting the former auditorium into a significantly larger and more modern library. In addition to these renovations, a major building addition was constructed, featuring a brand-new gymnasium and multiple classrooms to support the school’s growing needs.
The District selected Welliver due to its long-standing reputation as a full-service construction management firm with deep expertise in K–12 projects. With seven individual projects scheduled over a five-year timeline, the District required a professional team capable of handling the complexity and scale of Referendum 2. Welliver’s role encompassed daily coordination of construction activities, schedule management, and oversight of both individual project budgets and the overall referendum budget. The team also served as a key liaison between the District, design professionals, and contractors to ensure smooth communication and execution.
As with many school renovation projects, challenges such as asbestos abatement, working safely around students, and dealing with aging infrastructure were present. Welliver’s solutions-based approach and extensive experience allowed the team to address these issues efficiently, minimizing disruption and maintaining safety throughout the process.
Ultimately, the project was completed on time and within budget—a significant achievement that enabled the District to pursue additional improvements that were previously thought to be out of reach. The successful delivery of this project reflects Welliver’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and value-driven results.
