Local governments within Schuyler County have a well-documented reputation for collaboration and cooperation. The Schuyler County Council of Governments, formed in 2005 and still active and engaged, is a testament to the local commitment to improving efficiency while lowering the high cost of government in NYS. The building is one of several facilities that are shared by a wide range of government agencies as legislative leaders representing county, village, town, and school district entities continue to find ways to improve service without increasing costs. This was a great advancement for the community and was achieved through effective teamwork of the architect and construction manager.
The building houses offices for the County’s Soil and Water Conservation District; Buildings and Grounds Department; as well as County, Town, and Village Highway Departments. The maintenance bays are shared by EMS vehicles, county road maintenance trucks, and equipment. The fueling station is shared by the county vehicles and the school district’s bus fleet.
Compared to other materials such as wood or concrete, metal is an affordable building material. This was an attractive option for the Owner looking to save money on construction costs. One of the most durable building materials available, metal buildings are also more affordable to heat and cool than traditional buildings.
