Welliver designed and constructed a new distribution center on a fast-track timeframe. The main building is divided between dry and cooler-freezer storage spaces with shipping and receiving docks; as well as a two-story space with offices for executives and the sales, marketing, shipping, and receiving departments. A separate large maintenance garage includes space for SYSCO’s truck maintenance, several truck wash bays, and two fueling islands.
Project Highlights
- A 66-acre gravel pit was transformed into a workable site by moving approximately 450,000 cubic yards of material in less than six weeks.
- Welliver selected the members of project team to include those with professional experience that best matched the design and process requirements of this building. To deal with the aggressive schedule while maximizing communications and minimizing error, two superintendents, several project managers, and a full-time scheduler were assigned.
- Multiple site location changes required careful coordination with the Owner and design team and the ability of the Welliver team to be flexible and react fast to these changes.
- The schedule was accelerated from twelve months to eight months and was delivered to the Owner within that time frame.
